Panel Discussion – “Abaana Ba Kintu” Exhibition

To mark the occasion of the Kampala installation, a discussion was held at the Chemistry Department at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda on 1st April.

Installation curator, Dr Helga Rainer was in conversation with Prof. Sylvia Tamale (School of Law Makerere University), Associate Prof. Angelo Kakande (Lawyer, Artist and Art Historian), Don Mugarura (Co-Founder of Free Inquiry Uganda) and the artist, Nakitende Sheila.

Angelo Kakande

Angelo Kakande is an Associate Professor in the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology at Makerere University. He is an artist, art historian and a lawyer. He does interdisciplinary research to investigate the link between Uganda’s modern art and the complex visual, social, political and legal issues that shape it.

Sylvia Tamale

Sylvia Tamale is a Pan-African feminist and Professor of Law at Makerere University. Her latest book is entitled; Decolonization and Afro Feminism (Daraja Press) was awarded the Feminist Theory and Gender Section (FTGS) 2022 Book Prize — a pdf copy of the book is free on request.

Mugarura Don

Mugarura Don is a founding member and current president of Free Inquiry Uganda – an organization dedicated to building a community of free thinkers. He is an art enthusiast, teacher of science, and passionate advocate for reason and critical thinking, in people’s daily lives. Mugarura is a father and a customs agent by profession.
