Biennale de Dakar : une 15eédition qui monte en gamme

Departing from its usual schedule, the event is convincing thanks to increased professionalism, under the direction of Salimata Diop.

The Dakar Biennale, which was to be held last May, opened its doors on November 8, six months later, due to the political context that led to the election of the young president Bassirou Diomaye Faye nearly eight months ago. The latter opened the 15th edition of this great mass of contemporary African art during a ceremony held at the Grand Théâtre National, with a reassuring speech in favor of support for culture that was acclaimed by a large audience, assuring that “the artist has this in common with the politician and the statesman that he is sensitive to the destiny of his community. He anticipates social changes and is also a visionary. His role in mobilizing energies, particularly those of young people, is therefore important. “ In the implementation of his cultural policy, of which he detailed several aspects, he stressed that he wanted to 
“support all sectors and promote the growth of cultural and creative businesses and industries that create jobs” . Before concluding, “art distracts, makes us dream and think; it teaches and educates” .
